Medical Missions                                                 Governance

The Foundation for Philippine Medical Missions (FPMM) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Minnesota that provides free medical, surgical, eye, and dental services in different in-need communities in the Philippines.

FPMM is an all-volunteer non-profit organization established in 2017 and is composed of both medical and non-medical volunteers, many of whom have extensive experience in participating and organizing medical missions around the world. In 2017, FPMM conducted a very successful and well-attended medical conference in St. Paul, Minnesota that offered networking and education opportunities for potential, new, and experienced medical missionaries. In 2018, FPMM provided care to more than 13,000 patients, donated 48 hospital beds, and equipped two operating rooms in Bais City, Philippines during FPMM’s first medical mission trip. The Bais Bay 2018 medical mission also identified and financially supported seven pediatric patients who needed  more specialized life-saving surgical care. In addition, the foundation also works closely with local governments in the Philippines for infrastructure projects to help improve the medical conditions of the communities and also provides scholarship funds to selected medical and nursing students.

The need for free high-quality medical care in the Philippines is clearly present. In 2015, one in five Filipinos lived below the poverty line and 31.4% among them were children.1 In 2016, the under-five child mortality rate of the Philippines was 27 per 1,000 live births compared to the United States’ seven per 1,000 live births.2 According to the Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH), child mortality rates may be the most sensitive markers of a country’s general health care status.3

FPMM aims to continuously increase the number of patients it serves and improve the quality of care it provides during each medical mission. A successful FPMM medical mission will serve thousands of local patients with their immediate and long-term medical needs and will leave a positive impact in the communities it serves.

"We are a company of friends, givers and receivers, of healthcare providers, volunteers and patients. It is our mission to improve the health of those we serve, with commitment to do the best we can in what we do." - Sue

"One of the best things about the mission was the amount of people that we were able to help and touch their lives. And not even the people we were able to give health care to, but the people we were just able to talk to outside of the mission... I feel like our mission gave so much to the Philippines, but the Philippines also gave so much back to us. To think of how many lives were touched through the mission, it's amazing! ... I have a different view on the world from going to the Philippines for that mission." - Devon

"You think you've seen the world and you think you've traveled, but there is so much out there that you haven't experienced yet. There is something very special about the Philippines. I fell in love with the place and I fell in love with the Philippines." - Michelle
